An Open Letter to my High School,
Thank for teaching me how to use the pythagorean theorem. Thank you for teaching me how to write many essays.
Thank you for letting me know something about physics and how chemistry works. Thank you for giving me time away from academics so I could learn how to do music. Thank you for giving me "life long" friends. Thank you for teaching me how to wake up early and stay up late. I truly want to thank you.
However, on the other hand, and all of the other transition words I learned, I wish I could thank you for teaching me all of life's lessons that I needed to know.
Let's go back in time a few years ago, say freshmen year of high school. It was springtime and all the colors were blooming. Life was suppose to be going good and then my grandma died... and then my parents got a divorce... and then my papa died... and then my grandpa died. You never told me these things could happen and you never taught me how to deal with them.
Problem solving and critical thinking was suppose to help us make hard decisions, but when he attacked her she didn't have a choice. When he was given two options and wanted both, he didn't know how he was gonna figure it out.
When she got the call that her friend was gone, she didn't know how to respond, so when she locked herself in her room to deal with it she was being called irrationational.
When she lost everything and had to start all over again, no one told her how she was gonna do it, no one prepared her for it.
Loss. Greif. Abuse. Decision making.
Psalm 34:18
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalm 147:3
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Psalm 73:26
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Don't get me wrong, I am so thankful and grateful for all of my teachers. I cherish my education probably more than I should. We are privileged with the opportunity to have a free high school education, if we choose to. But know that there is more to a person then their acadimic success.
So thank you High School, for teaching me how to write, so that I can teach others what you forgot to teach me.
Sincerely, all the ones who needed life's lessons more than a diploma.
